Single Ply Membrane Roofing

A single ply roof is exactly what the name says: a single layer of factory-manufactured polymer membrane, typically mechanically fixed or adhered to the roof build-up, with joints hot-air welded on site. Because the membrane goes down in one layer and large sheets, single ply covers big roof areas quickly, and speed on the roof means less programme risk and less scaffold time for the client.

The membrane is lightweight, which matters on structures where the deck cannot carry the weight of heavier build-ups, and it is manufactured to a consistent factory thickness rather than being built up on site.

Single ply is at its best on large, open commercial and industrial roofs: warehouses, factories, schools and office buildings where long clean runs let the membrane do what it is good at. On smaller, complicated roofs crowded with plant and penetrations, a liquid applied system often details more neatly, and on roofs needing maximum robustness underfoot a built-up felt system may serve better.

Like every system we install, single ply earns its manufacturer guarantee only when installed to the manufacturer specification. We install systems from the market leading manufacturers, with hot-air welded seams tested as the work proceeds, insulation and vapour control designed into the build-up, and details terminated to specification at upstands, outlets and edges.
